The Chiefs have had very close games four weeks in a row. That will change this week when the Chiefs have a statement win against the Dolphins.
The Kansas City Chiefs have had a lot of close games this season, but against the Miami Dolphins, they are going to make a statement with a big win.
Over the last four weeks, the Chiefs have only had close, one-possession games. This seems to be a recurring theme, in that games always seem to end up closer than they should be.
In Week 9, the Chiefs defeated the Panthers 33-31. The Panthers are a lot more competitive than their record shows and they started this game by going up 14-3 against the defending Super Bowl champions. The Chiefs eventually prevailed, with the help of four total passing touchdowns from Patrick Mahomes, three of which came in the second half.
In Week 11, the Chiefs faced off against the Raiders in a 35-31 win. While they ended up victorious, it required a game-winning drive, which ended in a wide-open touchdown to Travis Kelce with 28 seconds left. Here is the final drive that gave Kansas City the win:
In Week 12, the Chiefs played the Buccaneers, and after an explosive first quarter, the offense fell into conservative mode. What seemed like a meant-to-be blowout, turned into only a 3 point win. The Chiefs left with a 27-24 victory, but it was much closer than it should have been.
This past week, the Chiefs took the field against the Denver Broncos, in a 23-16 win. This game was filled with red zone struggles and a lot of Harrison Butker, as he ended with 5 total field goals (good to see that he is making them again). This was yet another win, so nothing to complain about then, right?
While we don’t need to complain given the win streak, we have all been waiting for the Chiefs to earn a statement win. It seemed almost certain that it was going to be against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the first quarter, but that wasn’t the case.
This week, against the Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs are going to get that statement win. This doesn’t just mean going up big, but also leaving their foot on the gas and giving no hope of victory to the opposing Dolphins. After a disappointing offensive point total last week against the Broncos because of red zone struggles, Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy will have the offense up and running.
While the Broncos may not have an explosive offense, the Chiefs’ defense still performed exceptionally well last week, only allowing 16 points and being a key factor in getting the win. That momentum will carry over to this week, against a Dolphins’ offense that has been inconsistent all season.
The Dolphins may be looking for a statement win themselves against a powerhouse opponent, but the Chiefs are still the Chiefs. They have far more weapons and talent all across the board, not to mention Patrick Mahomes as their quarterback.
Look for the Chiefs to make a statement to the rest of the league against the Dolphins this weekend.
