Samuel Cosmi, Texas

If the Chiefs wanted to completely revamp the offensive tackle position going forward, then the pick of Samuel Cosmi is the way to go. Mike Tanier from Pro Football Network believes that Cosmi, an impressive athletic tackle from the University of Texas, is the right answer for the Chiefs going forward. He writes:

"Cosmi is a perfect fit in a Chiefs offense that can afford to wait a year for a top prospect to develop: huge yet shockingly fast for an offensive lineman, making him an ideal choice to lead a caravan on a screen."

At one point, Cosmi was a top 10 talent for Mel Kiper and when he recently declared that he would be entering the 2021 draft at the end of November, ESPN labeled him as the No. 2 prospect at his position. Given the concerns about o-line play league-wide, it’s likely that Cosmi isn’t even in play for the Chiefs at the bottom of the first round. Remember that six offensive tackles were taken in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

If Cosmi were to slide, the value might simply be too great for the Chiefs to ignore, but let’s not forget one thing: the team already has Lucas Niang returning in 2021 as a first-year player given that he opted out of 2020 due to COVID-19. As an impressive tackle prospect from Texas Christian University, Niang gives the Chiefs a potential replacement on the outside already and Eric Fisher looks like he’s got more in the tank.

If Cosmi is there, the Chiefs could grab him as a long-term play and let the dust settle on positions later. That’s the wise move is to take the best player available. But it’s also possible the Chiefs could look to improve the offensive interior instead, which brings us to our next prospect.
