The Kansas City Chiefs won a nailbiter Sunday Night vs. the Las Vegas Raiders but the team’s defense did not play well.
You know, I’ve wished many, many times this year that I had a time machine so I could travel right the hell out of the hellscape that is 2020 and just skip to 2021. Or, you know, it might be fun to go back to 2019 and relive the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run in real-time. What I didn’t want, however, was to turn on the game tonight and find out that the 2018 Chiefs defense somehow traveled to 2020, and took over for the unit we have been watching the last season and a half.
Sunday’s game felt an awful lot like 2018. Every time the defense took the field, I had no confidence they could get a stop. Every time the offense took the field, I started to feel sick, believing that if they didn’t score a touchdown on every drive, the Chiefs were sure to lose.
So what is going on with the Chiefs’ defense? Was it a game plan issue? Were some of the players under the weather? Why couldn’t the defensive line get a lick of pressure? And for the love of God, why did they refuse to cover Darren Waller?
We dive into all of this (we talk about the good parts of the game too, I swear, on the latest episode of the Arrowhead Addict podcast.
