Andy Reid

If a list of reasons why the Chiefs are Super Bowl favorites has to start with Patrick Mahomes, it has to be followed closely by head coach Andy Reid. Some might even want to argue that Reid and his staff are an even bigger reason for the Chiefs success than Mahomes. After all, if Mahomes had ended up in the hands of someone like Adam Gase instead of Reid, who knows how successful he would have been?

Regardless of whether or not Reid is first or second on the list, he is an absolutely essential part of why they are the favorite right now to win the Super Bowl again with seven weeks to go. The reason for Reid’s success is two fold. First he is an absolute brilliant offensive mind. From how he designs a game plan to attack an opposing defense to the creativity of individual play designs, Reid is the best in the business. Then when you arm him with a quarterback like Mahomes and offensive weapons all over the field, it’s almost unfair to opposing defenses.

However, Reid’s importance doesn’t stop with his offensive mind. The atmosphere and environment that Reid has created in Kansas City is second to none. This team plays for their coach and each other. You just don’t see attitude problems or selfish play on this team. They are willing to do whatever it takes to win as a team and that is rare in today’s NFL. Every year you see talented rosters that implode or fall apart because of a lack of leadership and teamwork. Thanks to Reid, that isn’t the case in Kansas City.

The Chiefs having arguably the best coach in the playoffs (assuming Bill Belichick doesn’t make it) and the most dynamic quarterback gives them a huge advantage over most teams. While there are other reasons to believe in the Chiefs that we’ll cover in a moment, Reid and Mahomes are the two biggest ones.

Now let’s talk for a second about the defense.
