The Chiefs have placed three offensive linemen on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday.

The Kansas City Chiefs placed three offensive linemen on their reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, per Field Yates. The list included starting tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz along with Martinas Rankin, who was just added back to the active roster.

The Chiefs are coming off of their bye week and it was a bit of a concern going in to any time off that players might come in more contact with family or friends than a typical week. That’s not to say that’s what happened here, but the concerns for COVID-19 contact in general were heightened in this time.

Fisher is the Chiefs left tackle and has been a pillar on the left side during a season in which the entire rest of the line has been pieced together week by week. After missing half a season last year with a core muscle injury, Fisher has returned and looked solid outside after starting all nine games of the year so far.

As for Schwartz, he was already on the mend for a lingering back injury that has kept him out since back pain forced him to leave the Chiefs’ win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 6. Fans hoped that the bye week would have brought back Schwartz after getting more rest, but it looks as if it might take even longer for Schwartz to return to the field.

As for Rankin, the Chiefs just activated him after he came off of the Physically Unable to Perform list. Rankin was out a full calendar year after suffering a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve last November.

The Chiefs already turned to Mike Remmers on the right side in Schwartz’s absence so far in 2020 and that’s likely to continue this week. Yasir Durant also got his first reps of the season in Week 9 when Remmers was forced out for a stretch as well. It’s possible that Remmers and Durant will occupy the starting spots outside if both Fisher and Schwartz remain unable to return due to a need to quarantine. More details to come from the Chiefs as they prepare to visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday night.
