Mike Remmers

Mike Remmers is undoubtedly the name that most Chiefs fans will already know because, as the sixth man, so to speak, he’s already helped plug some short-term holes in the starting five already.

Shortly before the Chiefs dominant win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, the Chiefs announced that starting right guard Andrew Wylie had been taken to a hospital because he was ill. He turned out to be okay for the long-term but he missed the biggest game of the season and Remmers was forced to step in on short notice.

In Week 5, Remmers was once again thrust into a starting role, this time on the left side, against the Las Vegas Raiders when Osemele was lost early in the first quarter.

The Chiefs signed Remmers this offseason for exactly this reason, because the rigors of a regular season make it tough for all five linemen to endure 16 games. Since the Chiefs decided to let Cam Erving walk in free agency (Dallas Cowboys), Remmers became the new sixth man.

Over the last six years, Remmers has started full seasons at left tackle, right tackle, and right guard. Now he’s likely to turn into the Chiefs full-time left guard unless his performance isn’t up to par. A savvy signing by Brett Veach.
