Most Valuable Player of the Quarter

Patrick Mahomes. Why make the case for someone else when we all know it is Patrick? Mahomes has been off at times this season and still has the Chiefs 4-0 while showing glimpses of a QB who has taken the next step, if there even was one.

With a 11-0 TD-to-INT ratio and an average of over 280 yards per game through the air, Mahomes has consistently avoided costly mistakes while throwing pinpoint passes into the hands of his receivers. The fact he is now beating teams by taking the smart play instead of forcing the throw should have other teams petrified.

Mahomes has realized that he can beat teams with his legs and, as we have seen, he isn’t scared to run for the first down even if it means contact. He just always does what it takes to come away with the win whether that is making mind-bending throws to Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman, running on 3rd-and-20 for the first, or playing smart like he did against the Patriots. He does what it takes.

We have seen time and again the jaw-dropping throws to beat teams like the Ravens which gives you the feeling no one else could do that in the NFL with that type of consistency. While guys like Russell Wilson and Lamar Jackson are amazing in their own right, Mahomes still seems to shine brighter. He is the pinnacle of QBs in the NFL and he is the best player on the best team. That makes him our first quarter MVP.
