Defensive Rookie of the Quarter

Only a few guys to really make a case for here. Willie Gay Jr. has played solid on special teams but hasn’t got much of an opportunity on defense, although we expect that to change soon. Michael Danna has gone from making the roster to surprise contributor, but the man who deserves this is L’Jarius Sneed.

Sneed, while only playing in 3 games, has exceeded all expectations and looks like a future starter on this Chiefs team for years to come. While I get it, he’s only played in three games, he has looked outstanding. He has 3 passes defensed and 2 interceptions, which could easily have been 3, and he seems to always be on the opposing wide receivers hip. He’s made plays in the run game and has shown to not shy away from contact. The ceiling is high.

The secondary as a whole has been impressive for K.C., and even more so considering the lack of draft capital spent there, but Sneed has noticeably stood out. The belief about returning cornerback Bashaud Breeland went from “holding on until he’s back” to “will he get his job back?”

Obviously the collarbone injury put any speculation to rest, but I hope Sneed comes back healthy and plays with the same intensity and competitiveness that has him as DROY for the Chiefs through 4 games.
