Chris Jones is among the inactive players for the Chiefs vs. the Patriots.

When the Kansas City Chiefs take the field on Monday night against the New England Patriots, they’ll do so without one of their best pass rushers after it was announced that defensive lineman Chris Jones would not be active for the game.

Jones has been limited in practice for the last week with a groin injury he suffered last week against the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite having an extra day to rest and recuperate, Jones remained questionable with the injury coming into the game on the team’s injury report. From there, the Chiefs might have decided to err on the side of caution by keeping Jones out rather than try to force him into the lineup against the Patriots.

It might have helped make the Chiefs decision to know that both Cam Newton and Sony Michel would be missing Monday’s game for the Patriots. Newton tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday and is quarantined for the time being. Michel was declared out earlier on Monday due to a quad injury that had labeled him questionable for the game.

Jones was already putting on quite a show this season in only three games as a disruptive presence along the defensive front for the Chiefs. He had 12 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 6 quarterback hits in three starts. Without him and Khalen Saunders, who is still out with an elbow injury, the team will lean more on Tershawn Wharton, Mike Pennel, Derrick Nnadi and others inside.
