Other than Jordan Ta’amu, the Chiefs roster has tested negative for COVID-19.

According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs have been declared fit to play on Monday night against the visiting New England Patriots after all test results for COVID-19 came back negative on Sunday.

The need to test both sides became a concern when the news that both Patriots starting quarterback Cam Newton and Chiefs practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. From there, the game was immediately postponed and the ability for both teams to compete in Week 4 was called into question due to the need for further testing and logistical hurdles.

The Patriots were the first team to clear the necessary hurdle with the news that Newton was the only player affected on the roster. Every other player was able to return back a negative result, which means they were cleared to travel to Kansas City and suit up at Arrowhead. Then Schefter got word that the Chiefs were also clear which meant the home team was going to be cleared as well.

The Chiefs will now host the Patriots on Monday night at 6:05 p.m. C.T. The Patriots aren’t even flying into K.C. until that morning, which means it’s going to be a long day for Bill Belichick’s team already. Throw in the fact they’ve now lost their primary offensive weapon in Cam Newton and the Patriots face even longer odds to beat the defending champions.

Still, the shift to a later date for the Chiefs means another short week heading into Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5. Even worse is the fact that their next game opens up Week 6 on the NFL calendar on Thursday Night Football against an impressive Buffalo Bills team. For now, the Chiefs can’t focus on that however. Belichick is waiting on Monday.

Next. Week 4 postponement is a major test for the Chiefs. dark
