Rumor: Brian Hoyer will start for Patriots against Chiefs

Brian Hoyer will be the starting quarterback for the Patriots against the Chiefs.
NFL reporter Ian Rapoport has word that Brian Hoyer will be the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots when and if they get the chance to play against the Kansas City Chiefs for their scheduled contest in Week 4.
At this point, the game that was officially scheduled for Sunday, October 4 has been cancelled. The game is reportedly set to be played on either Monday or Tuesday, but both teams are dealing with unknown results regarding COVID-19 tests and the league has a lot of logistical hoops to jump through to pull off the game.
Hoyer will be starting for the Pats because the team’s typical starting quarterback Cam Newton tested positive for COVID-19. As he sits out in quarantine, the Patriots will have to turn to Hoyer and/or Jarrett Stidham to run the show against the defending champs.
Now nearly 35 years old, Hoyer is entering his 12th season in the league. In that span, he’s started 38 games and has a career record of 16-22. He’s completed 59.1 percent of passing attempts in his career and has thrown for 52 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.
Hoyer returned to New England, where he began his career, for a third stint earlier this offseason after coming back in 2017 as well. He’s only started a single game since the 2017 season, which came in 2019 with the Indianapolis Colts.
Nothing is official yet in terms of the Patriots and Chiefs and their ability to play their game this week or not. If they are able to suit up and play on Monday or Tuesday without further delay, the matchup should be Hoyer and Mahomes in Week 4.
