Patrick Mahomes takes aim at the best secondary in football

The New England Patriots boast one of the best secondaries in the entire NFL. And, the unit is led by the hands-down best cornerback in the league in Stephon Gilmore. Despite a down year so far, the All-Pro is likely to get one more massive contract at the end of the season, as the Patriots would be foolish to let him sniff free agency after 2021. There is a good reason they’ll make him the highest paid corner in the history of the league, too, as he is a turnover machine waiting to happen and often, a human highlight reel.

All of that information might lead one to believe that the Chiefs should essentially choose not to use Gilmore’s half of the field on Sunday afternoon. However, given the talent of Mahomes, anything remains up for grabs.

Mahomes, like Gilmore, is a human highlight reel and a legitimate threat to lead his team to a touchdown from literally any place on the field. He will not shy away from throwing the ball at the Patriots’ star cover man. While Gilmore is a fantastic cover corner, Mahomes’ weapons are many and Tyreek Hill has the skills to create separation even against defender so heralded.
