Andy Reid plays football chess with Bill Belichick in Hall of Fame battle

We talked last week about how intriguing the matchup was between future Hall of Famers John Harbaugh and Andy Reid. On Sunday, that matchup is even better, as Reid plays football-chess with Bill Belichick, who may be the greatest head coach in the history of the NFL.

What we’ve grown accustomed to when two of the best five or so coaches the league has ever seen lock wits is often some of the best play calling we’ve ever seen from either man, but especially from Big Red.

Perhaps more than any other offensive guru he’s faced, Andy Reid has given Belichick some of the biggest headaches of his career. Sometimes the success comes early, like the aforementioned 2017 barnstorming. Sometimes, though, it comes later in the game, like the 2018 AFC Championship Game.

What will happen on Sunday is anyone’s guess, but we know that we’ll get to see perhaps the greatest offensive mind in football go to battle against perhaps the greatest defensive mind in the history of football. Reid showed on Monday that he’s go plenty of new wrinkles in the playbook this season, and one must know he’s got more in store for the Pats.

We’ve seen this chess match many times before, so it is easy to take it for granted. But, we should relish in the sheer luck we have in seeing two of the best do battle once again.
