Former Kansas City Chiefs players claimed by New York Giants

The New York Giants have claimed two former members of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Of the 27 players placed on waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs over the weekend, only two were claimed by other teams—in fact, both players were claimed by the exact same team. The New York Giants claimed both offensive tackle Jackson Barton and defensive back Adrian Colbert from waivers on Sunday.
In total, NFL.com is reporting that 17 players were claimed by teams around the league. It’s a very low number, but without a full slate of preseason games (or any, for that matter), it’s hard for teams to get a good glimpse at the prospects of other franchises.
Barton joined the Chiefs last November after being waived by the Indianapolis Colts on the team’s practice squad. General manager Brett Veach apparently liked what he saw in the late season audition enough to re-sign him this offseason to a futures deal, but Barton couldn’t quite make the cut on the team after being outperformed by the likes of Yasir Durant.
As for Colbert, he was a late preseason addition after being waived by the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs signed him to compete as a hard-hitting safety, but the limited time in front of coaches didn’t help. The Chiefs also already had signed Tedric Thompson a few weeks earlier (who made the team) and still had Armani Watts competing for those same reps.
As for the Giants, Colbert gives their secondary an experienced, physical player who has earned starting roles with his time in both San Francisco and Miami. Meanwhile, Barton gives them a nice developmental tackle to join with rookie tackles Andrew Thomas and Matt Peart in a complete remake of the team’s bookends. Only Cameron Fleming offers experience at the position at this point.
