Nick Keizer

In this odd preseason of limited press access and zero preseason games, the notion of “winners” and “losers” sounds a bit silly, but Nick Keizer is definitely earning some positive buzz coming out of training camp for the Chiefs.

Keizer was a tight end prospect trying to latch on with the Baltimore Ravens back in 2019 when he was cut loose. That’s not surprising given how deep the Ravens were at the time. Early draft investments in Mark Andrews, Hayden Hurst and the presence of Nick Boyle along with several undrafted prospects made Keizer expendable.

The Chiefs signed Keizer at that point and apparently liked what they saw to the point that they wanted him back for this coming season as well.

During this preseason, Keizer has earned praise from Patrick Mahomes and others, and he even agrees that he’s developing well. Keizer has always been a reliable blocker but his game is rounding into form in other areas. Given the reps he’s able to get in the preseason, it’s possible he’s turning heads enough to make them forget about other players.

If Keizer is a good play for this year, it would also work well for the long-term. Keizer is only making $610K this season and is an Extended Rights Free Agent next year. In short, Keizer is very cheap for the next couple seasons.
