Eric Fisher remains in concussion protocol for the Chiefs with another missed day of practice.

The Kansas City Chiefs are working with some newer pieces along the offensive front in signees like Kelechi Osemele and Daniel Kilgore. However, they’re also figuring out how to substitute for starting left tackle Eric Fisher who has missed practice this entire week due to a concussion suffered last weekend.

Fisher first missed practice for the Chiefs last Sunday, one of the first padded practices of the preseason. During his media session that day, head coach Andy Reid stated that Fisher was placed in the concussion protocol, which typically means the player will be out for an undetermined amount of time. Some players are able to bounce right back while others can miss weeks (e.g. former Chiefs center Mitch Morse).

As the Chiefs prepare for the regular season opener on September 10, they are blessed with a couple more weeks before needing to worry about Fisher’s absence. In the interim, it sounds as if veteran lineman Mike Remmers, signed in the offseason as well, will step in as the swing tackle this year. Remmers has starting experience at both tackle spots during years in Carolina and New York with the Giants.

Fisher, who is 29 years old, will have no problem stepping back in for the Chiefs considering he’s made 98 starts in Andy Reid’s offense since the team selected him first overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. Until last season, Fisher had been an ironman at the position with only two games missed during his rookie season—one of which was due to a concussion, as a matter of fact. In 2019, a groin injury and surgery kept him out of 8 games of the season’s first half.
