The Kansas City Chiefs had three players try out on Monday including Marcus Kemp.
Three players spent some time at Arrowhead Stadium in an effort to impress the Kansas City Chiefs enough to earn a chance to make the active roster and a familiar face was among the trio of tryouts. Former Chiefs wide receiver Marcus Kemp along with two defensive backs worked out for the team on Monday.
Kemp will be familiar to Chiefs fans as a standout preseason performer and member of the active roster as recently as one year ago. Kemp signed with the team originally in 2017 as an undrafted free agent and showed strong enough to climb the depth chart and make the active roster. In 2018, he appeared in all 16 games as a special teams performer and even finished with a single catch of 7 yards.
In 2019, Kemp hoped to build on his increase in playing time but ended up suffering a torn ACL and MCL in the preseason. The Chiefs placed him on injured reserve and then decided to let him explore free agency in March.
In addition to Kemp, the Chiefs also hosted defensive backs Kemon Hall and Brandon Williams for a tryout. Hall was a star defensive back at the University of North Texas until 2018 when he landed in the NFL as a free agent with the L.A. Chargers and Minnesota Vikings over the last two years. Hall had 14 pass breakups and 5 interceptions in his final season at UNT.
As for Williams, he was the third round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2016 NFL Draft and played in 45 games in the following three seasons. He spent the last year on IR with the Cardinals. During his time on the team’s active roster, Williams was primarily a special teams performer who can step in for some defensive reps when needed. Williams also had 10 kick returns in ’18.
