Patrick Mahomes says Josh Allen will have to top ’80 to 83′ yards in order to best him.
If Josh Allen wants to be able to throw the football farther than Patrick Mahomes in their as-yet-unscheduled distance throwing contest, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback said that Allen is going to have to beat “80 to 83” yards.
Earlier this offseason, word leaked that Allen and Mahomes—who are largely considered to possess the strongest arms at quarterback in the National Football League—were planning to come together for a contest to see who has the biggest cannon of an arm. The event would include a charitable component and it would be a fun way to settle the debate.
Mahomes appeared on Undisputed with Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe and gave Allen, who is the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, the parameters he’ll need to be able to lay claim to the title of strongest arm in the NFL.
#Chiefs Patrick Mahomes was on @undisputed and said if he competes with #bills Josh Allen in a throw off, he knows he’ll throw roughly 80 yards. "So if he can beat 80-83 yards, he can beat me. But, I’m gonna put it out there, I promise you that.”

Allen entered the NFL as a high-ceiling prospect known for his arm strength who would need to work on his accuracy among other issues. So far, the Bills are pleased with the returns on the draft investment as Allen led them to a 10-6 record last season and lowered his interception percentage from 3.8 percent to 2.0. Last season, Allen completed over 58 percent of his passes for 3,089 yards, 20 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions.
As for Mahomes, the former MVP and last year’s Super Bowl MVP has done it all in only two seasons as a starter. The fact that he can even throw as far as Allen or be in this conversation is the proverbial cherry on top. What really matters is that his ability to make jaw-dropping plays on a regular basis provides the Chiefs with Super Bowl aspirations each and every season.
Mahomes completed nearly 66 percent of his passes last season and had 26 touchdowns against 5 interceptions for the Chiefs.
