Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU

Raise your hand if you’ve heard that Clyde Edwards-Helaire is a perfect fit for the Chiefs!

There hasn’t been this much excitement around a Chiefs rookie since Patrick Mahomes heard his name called back in 2017. Edwards-Helaire is dynamic young running back who enters the NFL with championship experience at LSU, plenty of tread left on the proverbial tires, and a well-rounded skill set as both a rusher and target in the passing game.

Expectations were already very high for Edwards-Helaire coming into the season, but even those were heightened when Damien Williams decided to opt out for the coming year. Suddenly the Chiefs’ plan to ease Edwards-Helaire into the offense was scrapped. The scenario feels similar to Kareem Hunt‘s instant splash once Spencer Ware was injured in 2017, and the Chiefs would be thrilled if CEH took to the offense like Hunt did that year he led the league in rushing.

The Chiefs have plenty of mouths to feed with targets this year, but Edwards-Helaire has every reason to expect 225-250 carries (or more) and 60-70 targets.

Expected Impact: Very high
