Willie Roaf says Patrick Mahomes is ‘definitely the top player’

Willie Roaf says Patrick Mahomes is definitely the NFL’s best player.
Over the last few weeks, the National Football League has unveiled their annual ranking of the Top 100 Players in the league as voted on by their peers. The Chiefs had six players on the list, but a few surprises were in store. Not only did the list leave out right tackle Mitchell Schwartz completely but the rankings also had quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the NFL’s fourth best player.
Instead of having him at the top, which was the dominant assumption by Chiefs Kingdom (and more), Mahomes sat behind Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
At least one former NFL legend would disagree with that list. In a recent interview with Crescent City Sports, Hall of Fame offensive tackle Willie Roaf said that Mahomes was “definitely the top player.”
"“I think Patrick Mahomes is definitely the top player,” Roaf said. “He should be number one. No disrespect to Lamar Jackson or Russell Wilson but Mahomes is the best. Ask anyone that plays against him.”"
Roaf should know a thing or two about excellence at the NFL level. Roaf made the NFL’s All-Decade Teams for both the 1990s and 2000s. He made the Pro Bowl on 11 different occasions and was a first-team All-Pro as well. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
Even Mahomes himself looked like he noticed his place on the list, and he wasn’t alone. The placement was ridiculous given that he won the Super Bowl MVP award last winter and the regular season MVP award the year before. The Chiefs just made Mahomes the single highest paid athlete in American sports for a reason and it’s not because he’s the league’s third best quarterback.
Roaf says he also likes the Chiefs to win the AFC this year over the Ravens and believes they could easily face off against the other team he played for: the New Orleans Saints.
