Patrick Mahomes is now part owner of the Kansas City Chiefs. Of course!
The Kansas City Chiefs have the perfect quarterback on the field, but let’s be honest, Patrick Mahomes is also a model citizen off of it. In the latest display of his general amazing-ness, Mahomes was announced as the newest part owner of the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
Per a press release, Mahomes stated, “I’m honored to become a part-owner of the Kansas City Royals. I love this city and the people of this great town. This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”
Mahomes is certainly no stranger to the game of baseball. Not only can he be seen taking in a game on occasion, but he grew up in and around Major League Baseball with a father who put together an impressive 11-year run in the majors as a relief pitcher. His father, Pat, came to the big leagues with the Minnesota Twins but also played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs, and Texas Rangers.
Mahomes himself was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft as a high school student. It was clear he was committed to playing quarterback at Texas Tech but the Tigers thought his talents were worth a shot anyway.
What’s clear is that Mahomes is starting to use some of his newfound wealth in fun ways after signing the single richest deal in the history of American sports. Investing on a local level in the Royals was the perfect move from a player who has already been a dream addition to begin with. It’s hard to love Patrick Mahomes any more than we already do, but here we are.
