The Kansas City Chiefs made its selection in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and Twitter had a thing or two to say about Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
The Kansas City Chiefs had the final pick in the 2020 NFL Draft at No. 32 and, after a wild night, had all sorts of talent at its disposal. General manager Brett Veach decided to err on the side of scheme fit and draft running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of LSU.
Despite there being a plethora of options available, since no running backs had been selected among the previous 31 picks, the Chiefs passed up on the likes of D’Andre Swift and Jonathan Taylor to go with Edwards-Helaire. While some believe he isn’t the best back in the draft in terms of outright talent, Yahoo! Sports reporter Terez A. Paylor believes he’ll fit right in with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and company.
Paylor is right here, Edwards-Helaire is a great fit for the Chiefs and should mesh almost perfectly into what is already a daunting offense. He is a short yet physical back standing at just 5’7″, 207 pounds. Mahomes also had something to say about the pick, and although no words were used, the tweet said everything. Others said what Mahomes didn’t say.

The pick came as a surprise to some yet to most it was a great pick—a major scheme fit, with lots of development potential. ESPN draft analyst Jim Nagy is right to say CEH in the Chiefs’ offense will be absolutely insane. He has a low center of gravity and maintain his balance like none other. His on-ball spin moves, jump cuts and athleticism gives him the chance to be the next great running back for the Chiefs.
Most of the Twitterverse was positive about the pick, and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero mentioned an anonymous coach who had perhaps the highest praise of the night for Edwards-Helaire.
The Athletic’s Seth Keysor especially liked CEH’s patience and vision, which he mentioned are two of the best traits a running back can have in today’s game.
It’s safe to assume that Veach and head coach Andy Reid knew what they were doing, and perhaps it was part of their plan all along to take Edwards-Helaire. He’ll make a great weapon for Mahomes. It’s worth mentioning that the Chiefs’ Twitter account had its fair share of Bayou love:
