The 2020 NFL Draft is right around the corner. We have looked at the team needs and prospect visits, now it’s time to step inside the mind of General Manager Brett Veach and try to forecast how the draft will play out.
The 2020 NFL Draft kicks off this Thursday, April 23rd, 2020 at 7 pm CST. This year is shaping up to be unique as the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the NFL to restructure their draft plans, as general managers and their associates will be drafting remotely from their homes.
Chiefs Kingdom, along with the rest of the world, is eager for a taste of sports. The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions and aiming for a repeat. Today we will attempt to predict the moves that the Chiefs will make in the 2020 NFL Draft. This is the third and final installment of my 2020 NFL Draft Guide for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Before we get into that, let’s briefly recap the team’s positions of needs. You can find an in-depth analysis here. Part 1 of the guide gave us the following analysis of the Chiefs roster of the next 3 seasons:
Position (Average player grade):
- Linebackers (2)
- Cornerbacks (2)
- Running Backs (2)
- Interior Offensive Line (3)
- Offensive Tackle (3)
During part 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft guide, we examined the prospect visits that the Chiefs have brought in. By position, the Chiefs have had the following visits:
Position (# of prospects visited with)
- OL (14)
- CB (9)
- WR (8)
- DE (5)
- DT (4)
- RB (4)
- LB (2)
- S (2)
- TE (1)
We will look for the intersection of visits and team needs for each pick the Chiefs currently have in the 2020 NFL Draft. We will provide a list of potential prospects, as well as commentary on three types at each spot:
Brett Veach’s Guy: This is our best bet at who Veach wants at this spot, regardless of what we think of that prospect. This is based on tendencies and traits that Veach has valued in his tenure with Kansas City
My Guy: This is the prospect who I would take. Over the past few years, I’ve come to realize, for better or worse, Brett Veach and I do not share many opinions on prospects.
Fan Favorite: This is a wild card pick. Someone who may not fit a position of need, but would provide fun and excitement regardless.
Everyone Else: These are prospects that have been linked to the Chiefs by visits or speculation.
The NFL Draft is always a spectacle, and this year may be more exciting than most. Without further ado, let’s take a look at what the 2020 NFL Draft might just look like for Kansas City
