Kansas City has a strong core of receivers for the 2020 season, but are faced with the likely departure of starting receiver Sammy Watkins and important contributor Demarcus Robinson before the 2021 season begins. They could surprise people and grab a receiver early to eventually take over for Watson.

There are a handful of receivers that have met with Kansas City that could, in theory, fill that role. The Chiefs have kicked the tires on Van Jefferson from Florida and Justin Jefferson from LSU. Both receivers are similar size at 6’1 and around 200 pounds. Van Jefferson is the son of a former NFL player and coach Shawn Jefferson and is known for his work ethic and technique. Justin Jefferson flashes above-average athleticism and may slip through the cracks in a deep receiver class.

Possibly the most intriguing name on the list, for better or worse, is Michigan wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones. The former five-star recruit never put it all together, but his physical traits are undeniable. At 6-2, Peoples-Jones ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds, posted a 44.5-inch vertical leap, and posted a final tally of 139 inches in the broad jump. On tape, Peoples-Jones plays up to his size but his lack of acceleration may remind some of former Chiefs draft bust Jon Baldwin. The Chiefs met with Peoples-Jones and he could offer a boom or bust type prospect on Day 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft.
