Free agency begins March 18th, and there are plenty of players the Chiefs could add to improve the team. Here’s a free agency wishlist for the defense.

Last year, the Kansas City Chiefs’ season came to a heartbreaking end when they lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship. They ended the season with the second worst ranked defense, which led to the firing of defensive coordinator Bob Sutton. The Chiefs entered into free agency with Steve “Spags” Spagnuolo at the helm and were looking to rebuild their defense.

This year, the Chiefs are coming off their first Super Bowl win in 50 years after they defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the big game. Under Steve Spagnuolo, their defense ended the season as the NFL’s 16th ranked defense.

Changing the scheme and improving the defense through free agency acquisitions such as Tyrann Mathieu and Damien Wilson was what it took to improve from one of the NFL’s worst defenses to a middle-tier defense. This improvement was enough to push the Chiefs from just a great team to world champions.

Their moves in free agency last year clearly had a huge impact on the team and, as they prepare for free agency this year, they are looking to improve their team even further. Here’s a free agency wishlist of defensive players that could improve the Chiefs defense even more, starting with the defensive interior.
