Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry reportedly has multiple suitors beyond the known interest of the Indianapolis Colts.

If anyone has somehow forgotten just how dominant safety Eric Berry was during his healthy playing days with the Kansas City Chiefs, the latest reports surrounding the free agent veteran should serve as proper notice.

Earlier this offseason, rumors surfaced that the Indianapolis Colts were interested in Berry’s services in 2020, which came on the heels of news that Berry might have sat out 2019 on purpose in order to be completely healthy for a full season when he decided to return. Now Stephen Holder of The Athletic has reported that the Colts will have competition for Berry’s services and that this whole pursuit could take some time.

"The Colts, sources said, should expect competition for Berry’s services. The other suitors aren’t known. But just know this: the Colts will have to beat out others if they are to land the three-time All-Pro. They’ll also have to be patient."

Berry has played in a total of three games over the last three NFL seasons, including a complete season lost in 2019. However, Berry was perhaps the league’s most dominant safety in the years before that, earning five Pro Bowl nods and three first-team All-Pro honors from 2010-2016. Even in that span, he returned from multiple health concerns including a torn ACL and a battle against cancer. In short, it’s impossible for anyone to write off Berry if he sets his mind to it. Chiefs Kingdom has seen that first hand.

As Holder reports, the other teams with a rumored interest in Berry are not yet known, but given previous Chiefs ties in a number of places, including Atlanta and Philadelphia, it wouldn’t be surprising if one of those teams are also involved. In addition, keep an eye on the Raiders who could use some safety help and Jon Gruden loves a veteran leader like Berry.
