The Kansas City Chiefs may see the departure of one of the faces of their defensive line this offseason. Who are some interior players that could potentially fill the gap?

Probably one of the deepest positions on the Kansas City Chiefs roster in 2019 was their defensive line. They had a large number of players suited for the outside as well as the interior of the trenches. With several succumbing to injury, and one major cog potentially leaving via trade, there’s a chance the team will need to address the line this offseason.

I wrote in a previous piece that I think it’s important the Kansas City Chiefs make every effort to keep their superstar in the making in Chris Jones. Not only was Chris Jones drafted here and developed here into one of the more dominant forces in the league, from all accounts he absolutely loves the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s said as much a number of times.

I know there are fans who will say things like, “If he loved the team so much, why won’t he just take a below-market deal.” I wrote in another piece why big-time players, especially those who haven’t gotten a major contract yet, don’t often take pay cuts. Those types of deals usually come from veterans who have made their money and are now looking to build their legacies.

Either way, there are serious questions as to whether a deal will get done. The Kansas City Chiefs made the first move in franchise tagging Chris Jones last week, to the chagrin of Chris Jones himself. At this point, they’ll either get a deal done or trade him. With their salary cap situation, unless Jones is willing to take even a slight discount, there’s a better chance he gets dealt than kept.

With that in mind, the Kansas City Chiefs will likely want to add a veteran interior lineman in this years free agency. Lucky for them, there are numerous free agents that fit the bill. Here’s a look at three that might suit their needs.
