Kansas City Chiefs promote Mike Kafka to passing game coordinator
By Matt Conner
The Kansas City Chiefs announced a couple changes to the team’s coaching staff on Friday, including a promotion for Mike Kafka.
Head coach Andy Reid made a couple adjustments to his coaching staff for the Kansas City Chiefs recently as the team announced on Sunday the arrival of a new face and a promotion for another.
Mike Kafka, formerly the team’s quarterbacks coach, has had his title amended to quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator. It’s an interesting switch that likely brings Kafka even more into the fold of decision-making at the highest level, a move that should prepare him even more to likely take over for offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy if/when he receives a head coaching offer.
Kafka began his NFL career as a quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2010, and when it was time to start his coaching career, it wasn’t long until Reid gave him a chance to be on his staff. Kafka joined the Chiefs in 2017 as a quality control coach on offense and he’s worked his way up the ladder to be the likely next OC-in-waiting.
Andy Hill is the newest face in town, a new assistant special teams coach who will learn from Dave Toub. Hill recently completed his 24th season as a coach for the University of Missouri as their special teams coordinator and assistant head coach. Hill has also coached Mizzou wide receivers and quarterbacks during his tenure with the team. It will be interesting to hear from Andy Reid in the future as to what Hill brings to the team and why he would leave Missouri after a near quarter century.
