Chris Jones and Jordan Lucas were both listed as questionable for the Super Bowl with 9 days to go. What does this mean going forward?

The Kansas City Chiefs finished their “bye week” of practice on Friday before heading into the media storm that is Super Bowl LIV.

With the end of the week upon them, the Chiefs put out their injury report which included using game designations (even though there is no game on Sunday). Notably, they included designations for two members of the team—one a critical member of the defense that will be necessary to stop the San Francisco 49ers in upcoming Super Bowl LIV.

Safety Jordan Lucas did not practice on Thursday or Friday due to the illness that has been sweeping through not only the Chiefs’ locker room, but the entirety of the NFL. In the iconic words of Devante Adams, “Wash your hands, wash your butt.”

Apparently some Chiefs players have forgotten that advice. I, of course, am kidding, but since the Chiefs are required to give a game designation, Lucas was listed as questionable if the Chiefs played on Sunday.

Most notable is the status of Chris Jones. As we all know, Jones toughed it out last week against the Tennessee Titans after being sidelined against the Houston Texans with a calf injury. Jones has been a limited practice participant all week, but in his press conference yesterday stated he would 1000% play in the Super Bowl.

Despite that, the Chiefs are required to give a game designation and listed him as questionable. My gut says that even though Jones is listed as questionable, he would play. Jones will be vital in stopping a tough run game from the San Francisco 49ers, similar to the impact he made on the field in stopping Derrick Henry.

Travis Kelce, a limited participant on Wednesday and Friday (he did not practice Thursday due to illness) did not have any designation. This is a great sign as the Chiefs get ready to fly to Miami and face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on February 2.
