The Kansas City Chiefs saw defensive lineman Chris Jones loosen up in practice but he wasn’t able to do much beyond that due to a calf injury.

Seeing Chris Jones begin to practice, even a little bit, feels like a step in the right direction, but to hear Andy Reid discuss the Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle’s availability on Sunday, it certainly doesn’t sound likely that Jones will be able to suit up and play against the Tennessee Titans.

As the Chiefs prepare to host the AFC Championship game against the visiting Titans, Chiefs Kingdom has been hoping and praying that Jones would be able to go on Sunday after being forced to miss the Divisional Round win over the Houston Texans. As one of the Chiefs most talented defenders, the loss of Jones is major and that becomes more true with each passing week.

Jones has been sitting due to a calf injury suffered in practice on the Wednesday before the Texans game. From that point, it was clear that Jones was in plenty of pain and was going to be questionable going into Sunday. Jones sat out the game and it’s been made clear all this week that the Chiefs would not know anything for certain on Jones’s availability until the day of the game.

If Jones is unable to go this game, the ability of Tennessee running back Derrick Henry to run the ball down the heart of the Chiefs defense goes way up. However if the Chiefs are able to get past the Titans, even without Jones, then he will have another week to rest before the Super Bowl, giving him a much better opportunity to return for this postseason to make some sort last-second impact before free agency hits and the market gets wild.
