The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the most prolific offenses of all time, but is it the best offense we’ve seen in the NFL since the 1999 St. Louis Rams?

The Kansas City Chiefs are heading to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years. Kansas City shut down Derrick Henry at the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead, but it was the offensive fireworks of one Patrick Mahomes that has the entire NFL buzzing about this Kansas City team. Is this the best offense we’ve seen in the NFL since the iconic 1999 St. Louis Rams?

On this week’s episode of Stacking the Box, FanSided‘s Josh Hill and Mark Carman, along with former Chiefs offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, look at what they’ve seen out of the 2019 Chiefs and decide if this is the best offense we’ve seen in football in 20 years (31:44).

Hill thinks it’s close, as the Chiefs have as many offensive weapons as The Greatest Show on Turf did in its heyday. The other team Hill discussed that could hold a candle to these two teams would be the 2007 New England Patriots. That being said, Hill falls victim to recency bias and says this is the best offense since The Greatest Show on Turf, caping up for the absent Matt Verderame.

As for Schwartz, he doesn’t think this Chiefs offense is as good as the one from a season ago. The 2018 Chiefs may not have gotten to the Super Bowl, but that was Mahomes’ NFL MVP season and he did things with the football we’d never seen. Being in that tier of the 1999 Rams is massive praise, but one a bit too flattering for Schwartz to be in on this opinion.

Ultimately, what we’re seeing out of the Chiefs offensively is reminiscent to The Greatest Show on Turf Rams era because it extends over multiple years. This year’s Chiefs offense and last year’s ensure us this isn’t a standalone season of offensive excellence like the 1998 Minnesota Vikings, the 2007 Patriots and the 2016 Atlanta Falcons. It’s a good problem to have for Kansas City.

Overall, the only way we’re going to say this offense is comparable to the 1999 Rams is if the 2019 Chiefs win a Super Bowl. While 2007 New England and 2016 Atlanta got to a Super Bowl, neither team won it. The 1998 Vikings didn’t even make it to the Super Bowl, as they were upset at home by Atlanta in the NFC Championship. Win the Super Bowl and make it easy for us, Chiefs.
