The Kansas City Chiefs got some great news on Sunday when they learned that Chris Jones would be able to play against the Tennessee Titans.

The Kansas City Chiefs added a major asset on defense just before the AFC Championship game against the Tennessee Titans with the word that defensive tackle Chris Jones would be able to play on Sunday. Jones missed the team’s previous playoff game against the Houston Texans.

Jones first suffered the calf injury during practice on the Wednesday before the Chiefs first played this postseason against the Texans in the Divisional Round. Jones, the team’s star player in the middle of the defensive front, went down late in practice and it was immediately clear that playing that Sunday would be an issue. The team designated him as “questionable” on the injury report, but Andy Reid said even his attempts to work out before the Texans game showed how easy of a call it was to leave him inactive.

Fortunately the Chiefs went on to pummel the Texans by a final of 51-31, but the Chiefs are going to want all hands on deck, as they say, against a team so strong in the trenches as the Titans. Jones had 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble in the matchup between these teams in Week 10, and the Chiefs defense has only come together even stronger since then. Jones remained out or limited in practice over the last two weeks, but came up with a promising day on Saturday.

Jones earned his first Pro Bowl nod this year after putting up 9 sacks in 12 starts this season. He also had 36 tackles (8 of them for a loss), 4 passes defended, and 20 more quarterback hits.
