An incredible interception in the end zone from Tyrann Mathieu tops our list of the five best plays from the Chiefs win over the Chargers.

The Los Angeles Chargers keep things close for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon, but in the end, Andy Reid’s squad was able to come out on top with an 31-21 victory. The win was the team’s sixth consecutive, the second longest active streak in the NFL after the Baltimore Ravens, and gives them 12 wins on the year.

Looking back on the hard-fought battle, here’s our rundown of the top plays from a game in which there were highlights from the offense, defense and special teams in equal measure.

1. Honey Badger in the end zone

As the final seconds of the first half wound down, Philip Rivers tried to put the Chargers back on top with a deep strike from 30-yards out from the Chiefs end zone. Instead, Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu had other plans.

It was yet another end zone miscue from Rivers who has thrown way too many interceptions on the year for the Chargers to feel good about bringing him back as their only starting option.

As for the Honey Badger, the Chiefs needed someone to step up given the way the Chargers were moving the chains. The Chiefs had already watched both Bashaud Breeland and Juan Thornhill go down with injuries and the secondary was once again on its heels. Then comes Mathieu with this incredible turnover. The timing was perfect and the execution was extraordinary which is why it goes down as our top play of the day.

2. Mecole Blurzinger

Pardon the horrible Pussycat Dolls joke above, but we can’t help but smile and laugh when Mecole Hardman does what only a few players can do. In the second half, the Chargers had taken the lead, but on the ensuing kickoff, Hardman takes the kickoff back 104 yards—let’s say that again: one hundred and four yards!—for his first special teams score of the season!

3. Damien Williams

It’s hard to know what to love more: the fact that Damien Williams took this 84 yards for an unexpected score on a play in which he fended off several would-be tacklers after only a few steps or Tyreek Hill’s ability to catch up to Williams on yet another long play to show off his own incredible speed.

The Chiefs needed something to create some distance between them and the Chargers and they had the chance after forcing a punt. It didn’t take the offense long. Watch Williams’ ability to shed those tacklers and then put on a spin move into a long run. Amazing!

4. Deep Threat Demarcus

All throughout the first half, the Chiefs offense looked as if they weren’t even interested in winning this game. The game plan looked conservative, and the run game wasn’t working. In addition, the short pass game looked out of sync (nothing worse than watching Mahomes hit Damien Williams in the lower back on a throw in which the running back didn’t turn his head around in time.

However, on a second quarter drive, the Chiefs came alive with consecutive deep passes that culminated in the only touchdown of the first half. Check out this 24-yard strike to Demarcus Robinson.

5. Suggs Gets a Sack

It should be noted that Frank Clark had a helluva day with two quarterback hits and a sack of his own, but it was nice to welcome Terrell Suggs officially to the Chiefs defense with his first sack in red and gold. His presence is an added dimension for a playoff-worthy pass rush and we saw a glimpse of just that against the Chargers.
