The Kansas City Chiefs closed out the regular season at Arrowhead Stadium with their sixth straight win—this time over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Los Angeles Chargers came into Arrowhead Stadium hoping to halt the momentum of the surging Kansas City Chiefs and close out their frustrating season on a high note. Instead they were just the latest victims to face a Chiefs team that looks more and more like the Super Bowl contender they were projected to be.

On Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs took care of the visiting Chargers by a final score of 31-21, as Kansas City enjoyed a nice effort on offense, defense, and special teams alike.

The first half was a fairly quick affair with both teams showing glimpses of how potent their offenses can be while also stumbling on other drives. For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes threw deep successive strikes to Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson to move up 10-7 in the second quarter after Harrison Butker nailed a first quarter field goal. The Chargers had taken a 7-3 lead on an impressive Keenan Allen grab in the end zone.

The Chargers threatened once again near halftime, but Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu came down with an impressive interception to end the drive. The Chiefs chose to let the clock run to go into halftime with the three-point lead.

In the second half, the Chiefs saw the Chargers retake the lead on a five-yard run from Melvin Gordon, but the Chiefs speed broke things open shortly thereafter. On the ensuing kickoff, Chiefs wideout Mecole Hardman ran it back 104 yards for a touchdown—the third longest in franchise history—and after a quick three-and-out from the Chargers, the Chiefs scored again on an 84-yard run from Damien Williams to suddenly find themselves up 24-14.

The Chargers kept things close in the fourth with a Hunter Henry touchdown reception to bring the game within three points, but the Chiefs marched down the field on a deep bomb to Tyreek Hill followed shortly by another Williams touchdown run to put the game away.

With the win, the Chiefs pick up their sixth straight victory and their 12th of the season. The Chargers end the year with a final record of 5-11.
