Chaos in Cleveland continues

The Cleveland Browns came into the 2019 season with significant hype following an offseason spent picking up high profile names. Not only did general manager John Dorsey trade for wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to pair with Jarvis Landry, but he also added running back Kareem Hunt for the second half of the season. How could Baker Mayfield not find success in 2019? Well, Freddie Kitchens being the head coach might have something to do with that.

Over the last month, it’s clear that everything is unraveling for the Browns. Between questionable play-calling, wearing t-shirts about a fight against the Steelers, and mouthing off at the media getting confused by the questions, it’s clear that Kitchens is holding this team back.

Kitchens has lost the locker room as players are telling other teams to come to get them this offseason. Arguments between players and Kitchens on the sideline has become a weekly occurrence. OBJ was the center of those arguments this week as he threw his helmet at the bench during an altercation with his coach following a failed two-point conversion.

There was a significant concern about the number of strong personalities in the locker room following the offseason moves. Dorsey deserves just as much blame for the state of this franchise from that perspective. Dorsey has been known for not caring about character issues and only focusing on talent. Add that to selecting Kitchens to be promoted to head coach as someone he can control.

Dorsey told OBJ this past week that the team had no intention of trading him this offseason.  The franchise has also made multiple statements regarding Kitchens staying in Cleveland in 2020. It’s hard to take those notions seriously as the team is falling apart around Kitchens with no signs of slowing down.
