Patrick Mahomes says Terrell Suggs will help Chiefs ‘tremendously’

Kansas City Chiefs quaterback Patrick Mahomes says he’s “very excited” by the addition of Terrell Suggs to the defense.
With only two games left in the regular season, most NFL playoff teams (or those still vying for such a coveted spot) are simply hoping to protect the talent they have on the roster from injuries. For the Kansas City Chiefs, they’re trying to get the newest face acclimated for the stretch run.
After claiming veteran pass rusher Terrell Suggs earlier this week, the Chiefs were able to bounce back quickly from the loss of defensive end Alex Okafor to a torn pectoral muscle. Okafor’s absence created a void opposite Frank Clark along the defensive front, but Suggs is an immediate import who has started all 13 games for the Cards this year and comes with loads of experience as a sack artist.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says he was “very excited” to hear about the news of Suggs’ addition. He recently spoke to reporters to detail his reasons why.
“Obviously having a veteran who has had a ton of experience in the playoffs and then making these runs at what our ultimate goal is, it’s going to help out,” said Mahomes. “He’s someone who is still playing at a very high level … I think it’s going to help us out tremendously.
“I was very excited. Just to add someone like that at this point in the season that you know is going to come in and produce. I was very excited to have that. Obviously with playing him last year, I understand how tough of a matchup he is to play against.”
One reporter asked Mahomes about anything memorable when facing Suggs when he played for the Baltimore Ravens last season, and Mahomes had no problem coming up with an immediate moment where Suggs forced the Chiefs quarterback into making a mistake.
“I remember there was one time where they were blitzing away from him and I knew he was dropping, but I was trying to check into a different play,” explained Mahomes. “I don’t know if he’d seen it from weeks before, but I went to throw the ball and he was right where I wanted to throw the ball. That just shows the film study and the preparation that he puts in. He has the experience to know how to disrupt what quarterbacks wants to do.”
Suggs has 5.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles so far in 2019. The seven-time Pro Bowler was the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.
