Shortly after collecting his fifth sack of the season, Chiefs defensive end Alex Okafor was declared out for the rest of the game with a chest injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs have ruled out defensive end Alex Okafor for the rest of the game against the Denver Broncos here in Week 15 with a chest injury.

Okafor had just picked up his fifth sack of the season with a takedown of Broncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock earlier in the game whenever he was taken out. The Chiefs declared him out for the rest of the game shortly after that very play.

The Chiefs are already dealing with a number of injuries along the defensive front. Emmanuel Ogbah was declared out for the season earlier this year and he was the team’s sack leader at the time. Frank Clark has been hurting this week with a stomach illness that actually hospitalized him for a couple days. Breeland Speaks has also missed the entire year on injured reserve.

Okafor has had trouble staying healthy throughout this year. He had to sit out Week 5 for the Chiefs and then suffered an ankle injury during the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 8 that kept him out until Week 13 against the Oakland Raiders.

Okafor joined the Chiefs this offseason with a three-year contract in free agency to occupy the starting end spot opposite Frank Clark in a massive import that shook up the defensive line.

Okafor came into the game with 20 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 pass batted for the Chiefs in 8 starts on the year.
