Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback and return specialist Tremon Smith has found a new home with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles are the latest team to extend a warm welcome to a familiar face in return specialist and cornerback Tremon Smith. NFL reporter Adam Caplan has word that the Eagles are expected to sign him on Wednesday to their practice squad.

Smith entered the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs just a year ago as part of the team’s lackluster class of 2018—general manager Brett Veach’s first draft in charge. Smith was a sixth-round choice out of Central Arkansas who had a decent first year as a returner but was never able to break off a touchdown on a unit that had plenty of other options in wide receivers Tyreek Hill and De’Anthony Thomas.

The Chiefs employed Smith up until mid-September, but the addition of wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the mix simply gave the Chiefs too many options to keep a player like Smith, who could not earn his keep in the defensive backfield. The Chiefs even tried him at running back for a short spell in the preseason and that experiment failed.

The Green Bay Packers claimed him on waivers, and Smith played in seven games for the Pack this year but was recently waived after having a difficult time staying on the active roster. The Eagles finally swept in and are giving him a new chance, albeit one on the practice squad.

Thomas was named to the NFL’s All-Rookie team as a returner by the PFWA.

Next. Chiefs need to treat Patriots like any other team. dark
