Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and returner De’Anthony Thomas has signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
A familiar face has resurfaced with another AFC contender with the news that former Kansas City Chiefs returner and wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas has agreed to terms with the Baltimore Ravens, per Ravens beat wrier Luke Jones of WNST.
It’s good to see Thomas get another chance at the pro level after the Chiefs released him earlier this year in late October. Thomas started the season with the Chiefs after re-signing a one-year deal during the preseason after the team apparently was uncertain about special teams assignments. Thomas served a single-game suspension to open the year and then played with the Chiefs through his release.
Thomas originally joined the Chiefs as their fourth round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft via then-general manager John Dorsey. During his five-plus years in Kansas City, DAT developed a reputation as a strong special teams performer and solid returner. Unfortunately various injuries kept him from ever living up to his draft buzz, including a broken leg that ended his 2017 season that remained problematic the next season.
Thomas ends his tenure with the Chiefs with 65 catches for 509 yards and 1 touchdown. He also rushed 30 times for 190 yards and 2 more scores on the ground. He brings a wealth of return experience to Baltimore as well with 58 kicks and 78 punts returned.
The Ravens worked out Thomas last week along with punter Jack Fox, who the Chiefs then signed to their practice squad upon hearing the news.
