Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has left the game in obvious pain after successfully converting running for a first down in the second quarter.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came into the team’s Week 7 showdown on Thursday Night Football with a sore ankle. He might have left the game in the second quarter against the Denver Broncos with something worse than that.
As the Chiefs attempted to convert a fourth down and short situation near the goal line, Mahomes was obviously in serious pain and had to be helped off of the field after converting for a first down. The team even called for a medical cart to help him, but he ended up not needing it. Mahomes has now been ruled out with a knee injury and will not return.
Mahomes originally injured his ankle during the team’s season-opening win on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars. From there, his ankle remained tender but he was able to lead the Chiefs offense each week despite the initial injury. However over the last two weeks, there were obvious points in each game—against both the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans—in which Mahomes re-aggravated the ankle injury and his performance suffered significantly. Both games, by the way, ended up as a loss.
For now, Matt Moore will take over the Chiefs offense until we find out more about Mahomes. Fortunately for the Chiefs, they have a mini bye after playing on a short week to open up the Week 7 NFL schedule on this Thursday primetime showdown.
