After a 4-0 start, the Kansas City Chiefs are riding a two-game losing streak, which has disgruntled many Chiefs fans going into Thursday night.

It has been a tough 11 days for Kansas City Chiefs fans. After scoring 26 or more points in all 23 of Patrick Mahomes’ starts, including playoff games, the Chiefs went on to score only 13 points against the Indianapolis Colts and 24 against the Houston Texans, losing both games in the last two weeks.

In addition, former Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who Chiefs fans were hoping to see in Kansas City, was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

Despite Mahomes dealing with a sprained ankle while playing most of the season without wide receiver Tyreek Hill and left tackle Eric Fisher, Chiefs fans were pleased with the team’s performance and the 4-0 start. Although Hill returned, injuries stacked up across the team, which has played a role in the team’s two-game losing streak.

However, even with a plethora of injuries, the Chiefs have hurt themselves and missed out on opportunities to remain undefeated.

Kansas City had a poor offensive showing on Sunday Night Football against the Colts, putting up just 13 points—the fewest in 26 regular season games since the Chiefs scored 10 points in a  loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 12 back in 2017. The Chiefs quickly scored 17 points in the first quarter against the Texans, already more than what they scored the previous week, but only put up 7 more points the rest of the game.

Kansas City’s offensive dominance has been lacking in the last two games. The offense had 11 drives of six plays or fewer in the last two games combined, excluding one-play quarterback kneels before halftime, coming away with just 1 field goal in those 11 drives.

Both the Colts and Texans had it their way against the Chiefs defense. The Chiefs have allowed 180 or more rushing yards in the last four games, allowing 372 yards on the ground during this losing streak.

With the limited action on offense and the struggles on defense, the Chiefs have lost the time of possession battle 77:03 to 42:57 during their losses to the Colts and Texans.

It’s not necessarily the losses that are bugging Chiefs fans. It is more about how they are losing that his put a dent in the confidence of fans. It is more frustrating knowing it came in back-to-back games, one of them being on Kansas City’s first primetime television game this season. The negativity going into Denver for Thursday Night Football is understandable.

If the Chiefs lose, the team will own a three-game losing streak for 10 days. This would be the worst loss since Mahomes became the starting quarterback and it would come against a 2-4 divisional rival.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid must have an aggressive game plan to keep momentum for four full quarters. If the Chiefs pull out a win, even by one point, it will erase the negativity for 10 days until the next game.
