Trade idea: Chiefs should deal Tyreek Hill for Patrick Peterson

The Kansas City Chiefs may have missed out on Jalen Ramsey, but they can trade for a star cornerback in Patrick Peterson, but it’ll cost them Tyreek Hill.

The Kansas City Chiefs need to fix their defense in the worst way. They haven’t been able to stop the pass for a while and now the run defense has become just as pathetic. The Chiefs have a ton of offensive weapons at their disposal. While they missed out on trading for Jalen Ramsey with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chiefs could still deal for Patrick Peterson of the Arizona Cardinals.
On this week’s episode of Stacking the Box, FanSided‘s Matt Verderame and Mark Carman, along with former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, look at what it would take for the Chiefs to improve their secondary. The obvious trade chip going the other way would be the elusive vertical threat wide receiver that is Tyreek Hill (9:07).
“I know it’s a controversial take, but take Tyreek Hill and trade him for…Patrick Peterson, said Schwartz. “[He’s] the only guy I would do it for…You don’t need Tyreek Hill, the offense is fine without him all season long.”
“Yeah, he caught a Hail Mary touchdown. I feel like [Sammy] Watkins could have done the same thing or Travis Kelce or [Demarcus] Robinson. Someone else could have done that. Get yourself some better players on defense.”
“If I’m [Brett] Veach, I’m calling the Cardinals and I’m basically not taking no for an answer on Patrick Peterson,” said Verderame. He believes that the Chiefs are the best team in the AFC after the New England Patriots. While he feels that Hill is a crucial part of the Chiefs offense, Patrick Mahomes’ extension won’t come cheap and they need to fix the defense to win a Super Bowl.
Trading Hill mid-season would be a highly controversial move for the Chiefs to make, but Veach has never been afraid to strike a deal to help improve his football team. One thing is for sure. The Chiefs missed out on prying Ramsey away from Jacksonville. Peterson is the only other guy would trading Hill for. Maybe the Chiefs and the Cardinals can strike a deal to make each other better?
