The Kansas City Chiefs have released an injury report with a note that cornerback Bashaud Breeland is questionable for Thursday Night Football.
Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland has been listed as questionable on the team’s injury report despite the fact that he’s not injured. The team’s official release before Thursday Night Football against the Denver Broncos noted that Breeland’s absence would be due to personal circumstances if he’s unable to be there in Denver.
Breeland did not travel to Denver with the rest of the team and no further details were given about the veteran cornerback.
For now the Chiefs are already hurting at several positions due to injury with cornerback as the latest depth chart beset by injuries. Starting slot corner Kendall Fuller is already out for the game after suffering a thumb injury on Sunday in a loss to the Houston Texans. Fuller sat out of practice all week so it was clear he was likely going to miss a game on such a short week anyway.
If Breeland is also unable to play, the Chiefs options at cornerback become very limited. Morris Claiborne can start on the outside on one side and Charvarius Ward can handle the other. From there, Rashad Fenton could step in for Fuller. That would be it. The Chiefs have no other corners which means that someone like Tyrann Mathieu is likely going to have to slide over into some sort of starting corner role for at least one game.
Internally, Mathieu or maybe even Juan Thornhill are the only options as versatile defensive backs. However, the Chiefs do have Alex Brown on the team’s practice squad that they could bring onto the active roster if they wanted.
Here’s hoping everything is okay with Breeland and that he’s able to get to Denver in time to suit up for the Chiefs.
