Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrew is “50-50” on whether or not he will play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in Arrowhead.
The Baltimore Ravens reportedly won’t find out until warm-ups for the team’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs whether or not they will have tight end Mark Andrews, one of their top pass catchers, available at Arrowhead Stadium.
Andrews has been dealing with a foot injury that kept him out of practice on Wednesday and limited in the rest of the team’s practices as they prepare for the Chiefs.
Andrews has been a go-to target for Lamar Jackson early and often in 2019. He has 16 catches on 17 targets for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns in just two games this season. In that small sample size, he’s been remarkably consistent with 8 catches in each game thus far and only four total yards separating each game’s performance (108 yards vs. the Miami Dolphins, 112 yards, against the Arizona Cardinals).
As the team’s former third round pick in 2018, Andrews came on well last year with a solid rookie campaign of 34 catches for 552 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. It’s even more surprising when you remember the Ravens selected Hayden Hurst in the first round of the same draft—yes, two early picks on tight ends. Andrews has outproduced Hurst since his arrival in the NFL.
On Sunday afternoon, the Ravens and Chiefs will start a head-to-head match that could mean quite a bit for AFC supremacy when it’s all said and done. The Chiefs lead the AFC West and are the favorites there to win the division. The Ravens, meanwhile, look like the class of the AFC North. Being with or without Andrews could be a major plot line for the Ravens offense and its ability to keep up with K.C.
