The Kansas City Chiefs watched wide receiver Tyreek Hill leave the field and head to the locker room during the first quarter.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars have both lost a major offensive component in the first quarter of their opening game to start the NFL season. Not long after the Jags saw Nick Foles leave the game due to a shoulder injury, the Chiefs saw star wide receiver Tyreek Hill leave the field with the same injury.
Hill caught a pass from Patrick Mahomes and was tackle by Jalen Ramsey on the sideline on a play in which he went down hard on his shoulder. Hill immediately looked like he was in pain, and he left the field on a cart, although he was sitting shotgun in the cart. Hill was later ruled questionable to return.
Hill recently signed a three-year contract extension worth up to $54 million in the days before the regular season.
Without Hill, the Chiefs offense is still loaded with plenty of weapons, as illustrated by Sammy Watkins two scores in the first quarter alone. Travis Kelce remains in play and Mecole Hardman now has room to step up after being the team’s first selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Hill, who serves as the team’s most dynamic receiver, will still be missed. Hill has one run for 5 yards and 2 catches for 16 receiving yards in the game. The Chiefs will also be forced to replace their punt returner until Hill is able to come back, if that’s the case.
