The Jacksonville Jaguars are pulling the ole “sign one of their guys” before facing the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are relying on a tried and true method of scouting their first opponent of the season. NFL reporter Adam Caplan has the word that the Jags have signed former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chase Litton on the eve of actually playing Andy Reid’s team in Week 1.

It’s not uncommon for NFL teams to try to get an inside look at what the opponent might do by signing a former player who can yield such insights. The Jaguars have high hopes this season, especially given the strength of their defense, but facing the Chiefs is a daunting task for any team. Consequently, Doug Marrone’s staff is currently grilling Litton for any and all potential wisdom.

Litton recently lost out to quarterback Kyle Shurmur in the quarterback competition to see who remains on the team’s practice squad. Neither player was likely going to make the active roster given the Chiefs penchant for rolling with two quarterbacks overall, but Shurmur remains in place on the P.S. while Litton was sent packing.

Litton now hopes to wow the Jaguars in a limited time on the roster while giving them whatever insider access that they want.

Litton first came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs in 2018 as a longshot out of Marshall. He impressed enough despite going unselected to make the team’s practice squad and remained the team’s QB3 for the next year.

Litton threw 72 touchdowns against 31 interceptions in his three-year stint as a starter for Marshall.
