Chiefs vs. Packers: The 4 players who helped themselves most
By Byron Smith
Joe Fortson
While most of the Chiefs offensive weapons are speedy, smaller, and shifty, Jody “Joe” Fortson is the complete opposite.
Not to say he is slow, but at 6’6″, 230 pounds, he much larger and stronger then most of Kansas City’s receivers. He proceeded to use that strength and size all over the field in Green Bay.
A receiving touchdown, a forced fumble on a kickoff, and the second most receiving yards among receivers (and on only two catches), Fortson showed versatility and talent on Thursday.
Up to this game, Fortson has not stood out much and referring back to Graversen’s depth chart projection, he does not seem to have a real chance at making the final roster. But fans should be optimistic about his practice squad potential and the Chiefs likely saw plenty to like against the Packers.
Fortson could easily make the practice squad and from there, it’s safe to assume he would be transitioned to Tight End. With his size and and strength, Fortson could be a serious weapon in the middle of the field.
