The panel of experts at NFL.com made their playoff picks for the upcoming season and David Carr has the Chiefs on the outside.

If we took 267 sacks in our NFL career, we’d likely think some crazy things too.

David Carr is an NFL analyst these days, posting his picks, predictions and opinions over at NFL.com. In a recent panel exercise from NFL.com’s experts, Carr let it be known that he doesn’t think the Kansas City Chiefs will make the playoffs.

First of all, we want to give a hat tip to our friends at Arrowhead Pride for pointing this out. Out of 29 panelists, Carr is not alone in giving the AFC West to someone other than the Chiefs. In fact, seven total panelists picked the Los Angeles Chargers or Oakland Raiders to win the division. (Yes, three of the 29 chose Oakland to win.)

Here’s where the breakdown begins. It’s very clear from looking at the final tallies that most of the experts actually sound like, y’know, experts. They apply their knowledge to make calculated decisions. Then there are others, and David Carr is not the only one, who sees the money and attention that other blowhards like Skip Bayless receive and want in on the action.

Check this out: David Carr doesn’t have the Chiefs making the playoffs. That’s fine. We’re not trying to be homers here. We’re also keen to point out that he was one of three to pick the Raiders. Oh yeah, he has the New York Jets beating the New England Patriots for the East.

If you’re going to go all in on baiting the reader, you might as well do what Carr is doing. It’s the whole, “I’ll say the Patriots can’t beat the Jets and make everyone on Twitter upset because bad publicity is still publicity.”

What’s even more hilarious about the whole “pay attention to me” exercise is that he’s not the only one desperate among his peers. Instead of being content to be one of 29 people paid to shed some insight on the league, a few are using this platform to try to gain an even greater platform by appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Dan Parr, who is an expert here for unknown reasons, decided to pick the Raiders and the Andrew Luck-less Colts. Who needs a quarterback to win these days, right? It’s amazing not a single one of them went for the Cincinnati Bengals in the North. As if that prediction was somehow too far gone.

Next. Ranking the RBs of the AFC West. dark

At the very least, we can understand the third guy who picked the Raiders. His name is Marcel Reece and he actually played for the Raiders for eight full seasons. As much as I hate the Raiders today, if Al Davis or any of his descendants ever paid me even one tenth of the NFL average salary, I’d likely pick the Raiders, too—no matter the question.
