Cornerbacks

On The Active Roster: Kendall Fuller, Bashaud Breeland, Charvarius Ward, Rashad Fenton, someone not currently on the roster

Suspended: Morris Claiborne

Practice Squad: Mark Fields, Herb Miller

Cut: D’Montre Wade, Dakari Monroe, Michael Hunter

I feel pretty confident in Fuller, Breeland, Ward, and Fenton making the roster. The first three have been K.C.’s top three corners all through the preseason and will all play regularly. Fenton was a 6th round draft pick, has played regularly on special teams, appears to be the primary back up to Fuller in the slot, and didn’t have any glaring mistakes in coverage so I have him as a lock, too.

Morris Claiborne will obviously take a roster spot once his four game suspension is over. It could be that Herb Miller will occupy that final corner spot until Claiborne is eligible, but I think the Chiefs recognize that corner is their biggest glaring weakness. That is why I am predicting that, just like tight end, the Chiefs will make one more addition at corner before the season starts.

Maybe its a veteran that they add for insurance or maybe its a rookie that they had their eye on in the draft but missed out on him and now want to take a first hand look. If they do grab a young player the four weeks that Claiborne is suspended are a perfect tryout window. If they like what they see they can cut someone else and if they don’t then they simply release him to make room for Claiborne.

It’s possible that K.C. could trade for a corner too and if that happens, then their spot on the roster would seem more set for the season. I have Fields making the practice squad with Miller even though D’Montre Wade often played ahead of him. I feel like Fields has more upside and given his lack of playing time at Clemson I think its more likely that he would improve with more time and coaching.
