Beyond the oft-discussed candidates, Chiefs fans should keep an eye on these players as possible candidates to receive contract extensions.

There is a lot of anticipation involving contract extensions for wide receiver Tyreek Hill and defensive tackle Chris Jones. It is expected that both players could receive their extensions soon. Add in the fact that starting quarterback and NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes is expected to earn an extension next offseason and it’s clear the Chiefs have a lot of work to do in tying up their own.

In addition to some of the Pro Bowlers, however, the Chiefs have other players to consider as well when it comes to contract extensions over the next year or two.

Here is a list of four Chiefs players—outside of Mahomes, Hill and Jones—who could receive contract extensions within the next year.

Kendall Fuller

Kendall Fuller is one of the very few bright spots on Kansas City’s 31st ranked defense. With how thin the team currently is at cornerback, it seems it would be a necessity to retain Fuller, who is going into the final year of his contract.

Before joining the Chiefs in the Alex Smith trade, Fuller was an elite nickel cornerback in 2017. Although Fuller was not as good in the same position, he was much better as an outside cornerback in 2018, his first year playing in Kansas City.

One important fact to note is that Fuller played in 91.4 percent of the defensive snaps for Kansas City in 2019, according to Over The Cap.

Whether it is as a nickel cornerback or playing on the outside, another good year for Fuller would insure that the Chiefs will sign him to a new deal before the 2020 season.
